6 Common Mistakes Beginners Make With Dip Method

by admin September 14, 2023
written by admin

There’s no shame in being a beginner nail tech since most experts have to start somewhere. The truth is they became skilled professionals through their trials and personal experiences.

You’re not the only one who can find the dip method challenging or tricky. You have to remember: everyone learns at a different pace and is better at different methods of applications. Don’t beat yourself up when you commit mistakes, especially when starting in the nail industry! So next time that you’re practicing nail art, it’s best to avoid committing these common mistakes when applying the dip method.

Common Dip Method Mistakes Beginners Make:

1.OILY NAILS

Our skin and nails produce natural oils; therefore, it would be best to remove the oil on your nails when doing the dip method to avoid lifting. To do this, you can use a rubbing alcohol on your nails with a cotton pad to remove the excess oil.

Keep in mind that having less oil on your nails will have more adhesion for the dip powder. Once you’re done with the first step, you can move on to prep your nails. You have to take your time in the dehydration process or oil removal to avoid lifting since it can ruin your goal of having stunning and long-lasting nail art!

2.DIP POWDER INACTIVATION

There are many processes when doing nail art; the dip method can take a while, but it’s worth the wait! Other nail techs skip using the activator or the topcoat to make the process faster. At the same time, beginners tend to forget to include the activator in the step-by-step process since they’re not yet used to it.

Without the activator, the layers of the dipping powder and the basecoat will not seal properly. If you skip the activator and the topcoat then it’ll result in lifting especially if the layers are too thick.

The topcoat provides extra protection and boosts the longevity of your manicure. Apply thin base coat layers from the start but be sure to cover the entire surface of the nails with the product.

3.EXCESSIVE BUFFING OF YOUR NAILS

Too much of anything can be a bad thing. We understand that buffing can be addicting, but you need to tone it down. Why? since over-buffing can thin your healthy nails, and the dip powder won’t stick to your nails.

You must not go overboard in producing a rough nail texture. Instead, we recommend lightly buffing the nail’s surface with a 180-grit file to have the rough texture you need for adherence.

4.CRACKING

Consistency in using the right angle when applying dipping powder layers can help prevent your nail art from cracking. Avoid tilting your brush perpendicular and upright to the nail position or at 90 degrees to prevent uneven base coat application.

Always dip your nails at a 45-degree angle since it allows  the dipping powder to properly stick to the base coat. In turn, you get an even and smooth layer of product that prevents cracking.

5.BASE COAT BUILDUP

The base coat is crucial, and using an ample amount is enough since dry dipping powder adheres to it rapidly. Like any beauty product, a drop can go a long way, especially for your nails.

The buildup can run to your cuticles and sidewalls after being dipped. Avoid  committing this newbie mistake since it can be messy and hard to deal with.

6.EXPANSION DUE TO INCORRECT APPLICATION METHOD

Expanding can occur if your dip powder application method is incorrect. Don’t apply the base coat to the entire nail’s surface. Instead, start small, particularly from the tip, and build the product slowly towards the top of your nails.

For the first layer, apply the base coat on three-quarters of your nails. Again, we recommend leaving a small gap below the cuticle. Next, dip the finger in powder at a 45-degree angle for the first coat.

Afterwards, tap off the excess for the second layer of the base coat. Then leave a small space below the cuticle. Repeat the dipping process. Gradually, work higher by dipping up to three times and get closer to the cuticle. By following this method, you’ll be able to build a great apex, preventing the product from reaching the cuticles and sidewalls.

Every nail journey is different, and learning is a work in progress. Unfortunately, we’re all guilty of committing these common beginner mistakes regarding the dip method, and that’s okay!

Everything You Need to Know About DIY Press-On Nails

by admin September 14, 2023
written by admin

Press-On nails are pretty nostalgic since we’re first introduced to them as part of our playdates and beauty makeovers in our childhood. Fortunately, it’s not a thing in the past. If you’re a nail lover who has tried it all from acrylic to gel polish nails, then you probably know how trendy Press-On nails are today.

Celebrities like Ariana Grande and Jennifer Lopez are big fans of false nails. They are innovative nail products that come in a kit. It’s the perfect solution for people who are too busy to visit a nail salon but still want to have beautiful nails daily.

Some people buy ready-made Press-On while others buy customized Press-On nails from their favorite nail techs. Regardless, no one can deny how game-changing false nails are for beauty lovers. If you’re a nail tech fond of DIY Press-On nails, whether for fun or business, then this blog is for you!

What are Press-On nails?

The 90’s beauty trends are coming back not to haunt us but to make our lives easier and colorful, especially for nail enthusiasts. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, Press-On nails, also known as glue-on or false nails, were extremely popular. Artificial acrylic nails are pre-made and ready to be applied; all the user has to do is attach them to their actual nails to complete the look.

Press-On nails are acrylic resin, gel, ABS plastic, or ABS plastic artificial nails painted. When it comes to Press-On nails, they are comparable to gel tip extensions from the nail salon, but they cover the entire nail bed instead of just the tip.

Press-On nails, use glue or adhesive tab for applications. They’re ideal for special events, and you need to have beautifully designed nails instantly. Press-On nails can last two to four weeks, depending on the quality and usage.

Nail artists create a wide range of designs, and they come in a variety of sizes, styles, and colors when it comes to DIY Press-On nails.

Are Press-On nails bad for your nails?

Press-On nails do not affect your natural nails in any way. Since they don’t contain harsh chemicals, Pro Gel tips are an excellent alternative. Remember to give your nails and skin a rest so they can recover.

How long do Press-On nails stay on?

You may keep it up for as long as you like; however, your body will continually renew your cells and nails. When your nails have grown for around two weeks, you may reuse them if you remove them carefully.

Press-On nails that utilize adhesive glue should last for approximately a week, while those that employ stickers may only last for three to five days. There are a few tricks to applying Press-On nails that can help you get the best results.

After using the Press-On nail products, avoid getting your hands wet for at least 2 hours after applying them. Manicures are best performed at night, right before you hit the hay since you’re less active.

How to make your Press-On nails last longer:

  • Avoid soaking your artificial nails in water
  • Check for Press-On nails damage daily
  • Make sure to moisturize your cuticles as much as you can
  • Be prepared at all times with nail polish remover and adhesive.
  • To avoid damaging a false nail, handle it with care.

How to reuse Press-On nails:

Cuticle oil and nail polish remover are all you’ll need to reuse these beauties. The nail polish remover may also get rid of the Press-On acrylic. Another trick you can do is soak a Q-Tip (a pointed cotton bud) in acetone before using it.

Use a cotton ball to delicately remove the Press-On tip from one corner by pulling it out toward you. However, to be successful with this approach, you must be extremely patient. Do not remove them immediately since If you tug on your nails, you run the risk of breaking or chipping.

Benefits of using Press-On nails:

  • Affordable
  • Visually pleasing
  • Time-saving
  • Not harmful
  • Easy-application
  • Customized

How to prep for Press-On nails:

1. Find the correct size for your nails

Size your Pro Gel Tips per finger. As mentioned in our in-depth blog aboutour Pro Gel tips, each clear nail should fit without force just inside your cuticles. You can file the sides of the tips to make it fit better.

2. Place them on a nail holder

Place your tips on a nail holder or a safe place where you can work on the tips comfortably. You can use the holder to secure the tips firmly as you start prepping your nails or brainstorming for nail designs.

3. Be creative with your nail art

Let your creativity run wild when it comes to designing your DIY Press-On nails. Apply your chosen design with gel polish or Dip and Dap powder. Are you looking for something unique? You can try our Mood Gel Colors or LB Glow in the Dark Gel.

4. Use a Top Coat

Apply your Top Coat of choice. If you’ve yet decided between our different topcoats, we’ve attached a summary below.

  • Original Gel Top Coat – This needs to be cured, then wiped with alcohol after its final curing.
  • No Cleanse Gel Top Coat -This must be cured, but no wiping (cleansing) is necessary.
  • iGel Matte Top Coat – This needs to be cured and does not require cleansing. However, we do recommend using the No Cleanse Top Coat before the Matte.

For the curing Time: LED (30 seconds), UV/LED (60-90 seconds), UV (2 minutes) depending on lamp wattage.

Steps on how to put on DIY Press- On nails:

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  • Pro Gel Tips – The Pro Gel Tips are vital since they will serve as your canvas for your nail designs.
  • Pro Gel Base or Pro Gel Base Pen – These nail products are used to adhesion your false nails.
  • Gel Polish, Dip and Dap powder, Builder Gel, Sculpture Gel -When it comes to nail designs, you will need these nail products that will help your creativity run free.
  • Nail Art Accessories: Gems, Stickers, Glitters, Glass Paper– Last but not least, we highly recommend nail accessories that will add more sparkle and shine to your nail design.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO:

STEP 1. Prep your nails

You can start the prepping process by removing the oil from your nails to make the Press-On nails last longer than two weeks. The first thing you have to do is buff the top of your nail gently. Next, you have to use an alcohol remover or nail polish wipe to remove the dust or dirt from the buffing process.

STEP 2. Use our Pro Gel Tips System in three steps

  1. Use the Pro Gel Base Pen or Pro Gel Base.
  2. Stick your DIY Press-On to your natural nail, then cure.
  3. Leave the Press-On nails as-is or gently buff and file them to your preference.

HERE ARE SOME HELPFUL TIPS THAT WILL HELP YOU EFFECTIVELY USE THE PRO GEL TIPS:

  • You can measure out each nail for the right size of each Pro Gel tip.
  • Don’t forget to paint a thin coat of polish over them first. It’ll come in handy when you start reusing the nails you’ve already removed.
  • Top Coat is a must-have if your Press-On needs a little more shine and protection.

How to remove Press-On nails:

There are many ways to remove your DIY Press-On nails but avoid popping them off once you see your nails growing or lifting has occurred since they will damage your nails.

For Press-On nails that require glue, the first thing you can do is get a bowl. Boil some hot water, add a small portion of oil, lastly, add some cold water to soak your hands or nails for 5-10 minutes. After that, you can scrape off the Press-On nails using a cuticle pusher that comes along with the nail kit.

Another method you can do to remove Press-On nails is to keep your nails healthy even if you’re using nail products heavily by placing cuticle oil on your nails and massage them. Then soak it off by adding essential oils that are good for your nails and skin for extra nourishment. Once you remove the Press-On nails and see that it’s still in good condition, you can clean the back of the Press-On so you can still reuse it later on.

Nail Prep Starter Guide: What You Need to Know

by admin September 14, 2023
written by admin

Prepping your nails is essential whether you’re wearing a DIY press-ons, gel polish, or acrylic. Preparation is the key to setting a solid foundation for your nail art. Prepping your nails may take time, but the results can be worth it; think of nail prep similar to baking your favorite cake recipe.

Of course, there may be a lot of ingredients and processes to do before you can pop the tray into the oven. Still, the result will always come out mouthwatering and aesthetically pleasing every time you do the important step of preparing.

Why is Nail prep important?

Anything that is rushed is not bound to last; preparation is important for any nail service. If you want to avoid nail problems such as infections, lifting or marbling prepping your nails is a must.

You want to make sure that the nails have strong adhesion and are long-lasting, which keeps your customers coming back.

Things you will need for nail prep:

  • Buffer
  • Dust Brush
  • PH Bonder
  • Ultra Bond Primer
  •  Base Coat (Optional)
  • Nail Polish Remover
  • Cotton Swabs
  • Nail Clippers
  • Cuticle Pusher (Optional)
  • Hand Cream/Moisturizer (Optional)

Steps in prepping your nails effectively:

STEP 1:  REMOVE THE OLD NAIL POLISH / ART

To begin, take off your most recent nail art design. Clean slates are what you’re going for, so get yourself some cotton swabs and get to work by soaking it in nail polish remover! It helps avoid lumps on your nail floor and ruining the basis of your next nail art; make sure you remove all previous polish before you start. If you have acrylic, gel, or dip nails, soak them for 10 to 15 minutes to remove the polish.

STEP 2: TRIM AND SHAPE YOUR NAILS

Grab a nail clipper and clip your nails (if needed). Best to cut your nails to a short length, but not too short (the white tip should be visible). Afterward, take a nail file that is not excessively coarse and smooth out the edges. You can also use a sharp nipper to remove any lifted or dead tissue on your nails.

Shape- There are several nail shapes you can choose from when nail prepping. Read our blog on the 8 Popular Nail Shapes & How to Achieve Them.

Keep in mind that the order of prepping your nails may differ according to the preference and knowledge of the nail tech. For example, some would immediately start the nail prep process by pushing back their cuticles, while others would soak their hands in cuticle remover. Thus, nail prep can differ, but the goal remains the same: setting the stage for your new nail art.

STEP 3: BUFF THE SURFACE OF YOUR NAILS

Buff the surface of your nails with a mildly abrasive buffer for best results. Buffing aids in the adhesion of the polish or acrylic. However, it’s important to remember not to file your nails too much. Excessive buffing and filing weakens your nails and makes it difficult for the lacquer to adhere correctly. If you’re unsure about which drill to use, you can read our guide about Drill bit.

STEP 4: SOAK YOUR NAILS

Soaking is the next step. You can soften your cuticles and eliminate all the grime and residue by adding a few drops of fragrant soap to a bowl filled with warm water.

STEP 5. TRIM OR PUSH BACK YOUR CUTICLES

Keep in mind pushing back the cuticle means pushing back the layer of skin to reveal the cuticle to remove the dry and dead skin. Russian manicure also has cuticle removing techniques, but in the U.S., there are restrictions on which areas can be nipped off during a manicure, and it depends on the client’s preference.

You can use a drill bit to safely remove the cuticle without causing any damage to the nail plates or living skin. Also, pushing back your cuticles will help make your nail art design last longer.

Option 1: Trim. Take a cuticle trimmer to remove your cuticles. Just cut off the free edge of your cuticles. Don’t try to cut your cuticles if you don’t have any prior experience. You might accidentally hurt yourself and get an infection.

Option 2: Push Back. Beginners should gently push back their cuticles using a cuticle pusher or an orangewood stick. Be sure not to push the cuticle too far as it can damage your nails. You can also remove any hangnails you have. Still, you have to be careful not to hurt yourself by cutting too deep.

STEP 6: MOISTURIZE YOUR NAILS

Apply fragrance-free cuticle oil or apply hand cream or lotion to your nails and the skin surrounding your nails. Softening your cuticles and replenishing your skin are both aided by moisturizing. Wait for at least half an hour to let the moisturizer and oil dry thoroughly. You may learn more about the significance of nail care in our blog post.

STEP 7: MAKE SURE YOUR NAILS ARE CLEAN AND DRY

After the mini-spa session, make sure that your nail is dry. Even if the moisturizer has evaporated, it could prevent the polish (or acrylic) from adhering properly. So, take a nail polish remover and lightly apply it over the entire surface of the nails. It will help remove any oil or residue that might be present on your nails’ surface.

STEP 8: APPLY PRIMER OR BASE COAT

Apply a clear base coat or an acid-free nail primer to seal in all of your hard work. Primer removes any dirt, grease, or residue from your nails so that your nail polish can adhere properly.

A clear base coat is sufficient if you’re only going to paint your nails with polish. If desired, use a basic Top Coat on top of your finished design.

iGel Beauty Guide to Hailey Bieber’s Glazed Donut Nails Trend

by admin September 14, 2023
written by admin

Have you given the popular Hailey Bieber Glazed Donut manicure a shot yet? If you haven’t already, here is your time to try out the minimalist, shiny, chrome-filled nail trend. Zola Ganzorigt, a celebrity nail tech who has worked with Syndey Sweeney, Sabrina Carpenter, and Kendall Jenner, revealed her trade secrets for getting flawless, hydrated nails. This modern nail art can be done at home with a UV lamp, gel polish, and chrome powder!

WHAT IS THE GLAZED DONUT NAILS TREND?

Hailey Bieber popularized “glazed donut skin” when she told Harper’s Bazaar that her skincare routine leaves her complexion like a glazed donut. She has now debuted Rhode, a new skincare brand designed to strengthen the skin’s natural barrier while producing silky, shiny results reminiscent of a freshly glazed doughnut.

Hailey wore the glazed donut nail style designed by Ganzorigt for the MET Gala. As she puts it, “it was so spontaneous and came out so gorgeous that it went viral.” Since it looks great on nails of any length or shape, it has quickly become a fan favorite. Ganzorigt said, “it was different from people’s regular chrome nails” since the base color is so transparent and natural.

Another version of the trending nail art and its strawberry glazed donut. Which has a more pinkish shade than the original one in white, then sour lemon drop glazed donut, which is more on the yellow tone, sounds like a sweet escape to your usual nail art designs in the past!

STEPS IN GETTING HAILEY BIEBER’S NAILS:

Step 1:

You must first prep your nails and implement some nail care since glazed donut skin or nails is all about having healthy-looking yet moisturized nails! As you prep, go ahead and add nail tips or pro gel tips, whichever you prefer depending on the nail shape you’re aiming for, to add some length and strength to your nails. You can read our nail prep guide here if you need a refresher!

Step 2:

Don’t forget to add a base coat to make your gel nails last longer and avoid the nails staining the nails! Then with your UV/ LED lamp, cure for 30 seconds, depending on the wattage of your nail lamp.

Step 3:

Use your preferred gel polish; if you want to have the original donut glazed in white, you can swipe in our iGel Match-001 Pure White! If you wish to wear a strawberry-glazed donut shade, you can opt-in for our iGel Match -B20 Precious Pink or iGel Match-105 Pink Orchid!

Summer may be over, but your nail color shouldn’t be if you’re not yet ready. You can take inspiration from our yellow nail art designs for yellow gel polishes!

Step 4:

The next step is for you to mix a shimmery yet pearlescent gel polish along with the Top Coat to secure the pearly effect of the Donut Glazed nails. You can choose from our use Pearl Gel Professional Collection. Apply a thin layer of top coat with pearlescent gel polish on your nails, then cure.

Step 5:

Last but not least, you can use a Chrome Powder Pen or Chrome pigment to add a chrome effect to your nails, then voila! You finally have the deliciously good-looking nails of Hailey Bieber! You don’t have to be a trendsetter or a celebrity to get these trendy nails since you can easily do it in the comfort of your home or let your nail tech do it for you!
